The
Village of Oak Park is an architectural treasure in a western
suburb. Within its 4.5 square mile area exists over 70 architecturally
and historically significant buildings of all varieties. 25 of
these buildings were designed by the world-renowned architect,
Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright had a large influence in Oak Park architecture,
and the community has many artists whose studios and galleries
provide a variety of entertainment. The Frank Lloyd Wright Home
and Studio, Unity Temple and Moore-Dugal Home are favorite Frank
Lloyd Wright attractions for the area. Oak Park's famous residents
also include: Ernest Hemingway, whose home and museum are open
to the public; Doris Humphrey, the dancer and choreographer; and
Edgar Rice Burroughs, the creator of Tarzan.
Many diverse shops and restaurants in Oak Park cater to a variety
of tastes and cultures. International cuisine can be found from
the United States, Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia. The
community also contains many charming hotels and bed and breakfasts,
to provide tourists with a true taste of the Oak Park community.
